The 244th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society starts this Saturday, August 18 to Wednesday August 22 in Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love. The Undergraduate Programs Office will be hosting programming specially designed to appeal to and equip undergraduate chemistry students, and we’ll be using this website to keep you up to date with daily updates, starting Saturday. Until then, here are a few aspects of the meeting of which you can take advantage before the Undergraduate Program itself:
It should come as no surprise that employment is very difficult for students after graduation. But that is all the more reason to attend our career fair! By learning about the employers out there and the jobs that are available, you can better equip yourself for when you start sending resumes! Moreover, for those of you still a few years from graduation, you can ask industry representatives about potential internships at their various companies. Finally, if you’re starting you job search, you can have your resume reviewed and receive top notch job seeking advice. You can take advantage of the new ACS Career Pathways, which is designed to tailor your skills to the ideal career path. If you’re attending the National Meeting, you can’t afford to miss this event!
2. Technical Sessions
Staying up to date on your science is a lifetime pursuit. Learn what’s happening at the forefront of chemistry by attending a few technical sessions while at the meeting. And if you’re not sure which ones to attend, allow our C&EN staff to give you their opinions!
3. Social Events
You know the saying, “Its not what you know, its who you know”? You need to know chemistry, but you also need to know people in chemistry, and the ACS can help. We’ve setup Social Events throughout the meeting to enable those connections which help build chemistry careers. Stop by for a few!
That’s all for now, stay tuned to this blog for meeting updates, dining tips, and can’t miss events!
